needed to determine if and where we can be of help - or redirect you
as needed. An application / admin fee applies.
- Assistance
Dog: a dog trained
to perform tasks for a person with a disability is defined as an assistance
dog (eg, a dog offering support by being present)
- Service
Dog: a dog trained to perform
specific tasks for a person with a disability is defined as a service
dog (eg, an assistance dogs that also pick up phones, glasses, carries
the purse, find the shoes etc)
- Autism
and dogs: the bond between
humans and animals is truly amazing and creates opportunities for people
with ASD, to enhance their communication skills and training the person
and dog to stay together - makes life for the family a lot safer and
less stressful.
- Course
Materials: we use the
proven 'TOP DOG USA' Teamwork materials, written by people with
disabilities for people with disabilities.
- Conditions: This section addresses our policies and procedures,
costs and requirements and should be reviewed by those interested in
the programme before an application is lodged. Please also review

newsletter section before applying.
- Course
Programme: This is the
practical side and initially ensures that your dog will be trained to
the minimum obedience standards. In the latter part of the course more
specific assistance issues will be addressed. Our training programmes
are informal, fun and a terrific way of learning as a team.

organisation and welcome ANY support you can give. We seek more sponsors
to reduce costs and offer a better service programme.

Programme: It is vital to
complete this theory programme before continuing into the practical
training. You will have a better understanding of the relationship between
you and your canine friend, and together you will have a happy and prosperous
training.

- Shop: The TOP DOG Teamwork materials are for sale
on our site. We also offer other training materials, which cater for
specialist needs. Costs include GST and a small margin to cover our
stock.
- Tailored
Payment facilities: Easy

- Therapy
dog: These provide therapy
in settings like a hospital, hospice, nursing homes, schools and rehabilitation
centres. They are dogs employed by professional therapists to provide
comfort, increased social interaction and relief from stress for a person
with disabilities.
- TOP DOG: This US -based organisation was founded
over 20 years ago and helps people with physical disabilities to train
their own dogs. We have adapted their programmes to our needs - and

- Volunteering: Volunteering can take on many roles - and
can be one of the most fulfilling things you can ever do. Witness someone
with disabilities partner with their dog to gain more freedom, self-respect

- Who are we: The owners
of K9Coach
Pty Ltd identified an increasing
demand for people to be able to access service /assistance dogs and
after much research formed Service DogTraining. The research identified
that handlers should be able to train their own dogs - and
the Service Dog Training programmes are geared towards this aim. Our
services (time) are supplied on a cost recovery basis. All costs
are advised in advance, transparently and openly.
